Cream Tea At Drayton Court Hotel – TamworthPosted on Jun 20, 2017
Cream tea one of life’s simple pleasures
“A quick question, “Do you put cream on your scone first and then jam… or do you put your jam on first and then your cream?”
There is an actual Cornwall Devon divide that makes the difference between a Cornish Cream Tea and a Devonshire Cream Tea and it is solely based on which comes first, the jam or the cream. (The chicken or the egg question must really get them flapping).
We suppose you may never have given the above question much thought but you may be surprised to know that your cream/jam, jam/cream tendencies can lead to much debate and controversy.
The traditional Cream Tea can be traced all the way back to the tourism boom of the 1850’s where the new-fangled railway opened up the West country for visitors from all over the UK to head southwest and indulge in the fabulous combination of these fine local ingredients.
